Few New Commands I Learnt From a PC-Maintenance Guy

A guy from PC maintenance department came to my cubicle today morning with his inventory sheet to jot down the hardware details of my PC. Little did I know that he was a “commandline ninja”.  Here are a few gems I collected from him:

1. hostname: To echo the system name

C:\Users\DeepakD>hostname
DESKTOP-UBU4LPL

2. getmac: To display only the MAC address(es) of the network adapter(s)

C:\Users\DeepakD>getmac

Physical Address    Transport Name
=================== ==========================================================
28-F1-0E-05-60-17   \Device\Tcpip_{4E95358B-7AC4-4236-ACAC-142DAA4FAD12}
A0-D3-7A-42-A1-B7   Media disconnected
A0-D3-7A-42-A1-BB   Media disconnected

3. systeminfo| find /i "memory": To get the RAM details

C:\Users\DeepakD>systeminfo | find /i "memory"
Total Physical Memory:     16,276 MB
Available Physical Memory: 9,915 MB
Virtual Memory: Max Size: 18,708 MB
Virtual Memory: Available: 11,987 MB
Virtual Memory: In Use: 6,721 MB

The filterless systeminfo tells everything…

C:\Users\DeepakD>systeminfo
